No! It’s not a Nexus 5x! it’s Axioo Venge. Axioo are rocking yet another 64bit smartphone model for their line-up with this Venge model that using mediatek mt6735 64bit processors, 3Gb ram, Mali T720 gpu with 720×1280 screen resolution, dual simcard and of course with 4G LTE support.

This is a custom rom for Venge model I made based from stock rom. No major tweak and customization for this release because it’s already good, only removing bloated software to slimdown the size.

Requirement and Preparation :

  • Read this thoroughly :
    I am not responsible if you brick your phone, get stuck in a bootloop, or if your phone grows arms and tries to kill you. Flash at your own risk!
    Please do some research if you have any concerns about risk of flashing a custom rom before continuing! YOU are choosing to make these modifications, and if you point the finger at me for messing up your device, I will laugh at you!!
    If you have any other objection, don’t bother to comment, just close this page!
  • This custom rom need a custom recovery to flashed into the device, if you haven’t got it, get it here : custom recovery for axioo Venge.

Flashing Process :

The steps to flash this custom rom is pretty straight forward :

  • Download the custom rom from link above and copy it to the root of your sdcard, you may check it first with your file manager to confirm it was there. There are two sdcard storage on this device, so you must know it’s at the internal sdcard or external sdcard. I prefer you to put this on external sdcard to avoid any difficulties.
  • Boot into recovery mode by turning off your phone, hold down Volume Up button then press power button, hold them both until you see the recovery menu then release it. The recovery menu will show about 3 options, Recovery, Fastboot and Normal Mode. Select the Recovery options using Volume Up button and press Enter using Volume Down button. Wait a sec or two … then you’ll be in recovery mode.
  • BACKUP your stock rom and data using BACKUP feature, make sure you use external storage as destination because this backup is relatively big.
  • Choose Wipe Data / Factory reset and execute it.
  • Choose Wipe cache partition and execute it
  • Choose Wipe Dalvik Cache / ART and execute it
  • Go back to main menu, and choose Install
  • It will open a list of file on your sdcard, choose the custom rom zip file that you put on step 1 and flash it.
  • After the installation completed, choose Reboot System
  • Done

First Boot after Install :

On a first boot after install, the ART engine needs to compile all the apk into odexed cache one by one, and since this is 64bit arch, those process will took twice longer for arm and arm64, it needs some time to accomplish. Give a 10 to 15 minutes to fully completed, make sure you have enough battery power and DO NOT interrupt the process by using it,  it will only make your device suffer and the longer progress … worse, you will face a problematic playservice later … leave it alone, go play with your dog, eat your cat, whatever, be patient !!
On my device it takes whole 11 minutes from a fresh install until I can see the Launcher loaded properly, make it 20 for safe while also gives the device time to cool down. I repeat, this is happen ONLY ONCE after a fresh install or doing Factory Reset, the daily boot or reboot doesn’t affected and only needs a couple of seconds.

XPosed Framework :

This custom rom also support Xposed Framework, and here is how to install it on lollipop :

  • Get the latest Xposed Framework installer zip :
    make sure you choose the 64bit package since this custom rom is 64bit arch and flash it from recovery.
  • After flashing the Xposed Installer, you will also need the Xposed Module Manager application XposedInstaller_3.0_alpha4.apk to manage all of your xposed module. Download it from the same link as above and install it.
  • Check if the Xposed framework installed correctly and happy customizing.
Remote Infrared Feature :

This venge device has a builtin IR-blaster device just like on HTC and Samsung devices and the driver is well recognized by the kernel. You can use it to control all of your household equipment such as your TV, CableTV decoder, AC, HiFi Amplifier, whatever, you name it. As long as the equipment has the infrared remote control you can replicate the ir-code with this venge remote-ir feature.
I try to find the easiest and trouble-free remote-ir application from playstore (many are rubbish) and among the best is ZaZa-Remote, so I include it on this custom rom for you. The ZaZa-Remote will auto detect the remote-ir device automatically from this venge device (as IEC A-S43 IR-device) for your convenience. All you have to do is adding a remote, pick the device from thousands of brands database, find the model and test it.

If you’re an electronic hobbyist and have a proper knowledge with interfacing via arduino, this application also offers many extensions to external diy devices. It’s pretty interesting weekend project to build and learning infrared code device, get the data with arduino, process it with a simple algorithm and store or send it again through network to another infrared transmitter or even an IoT device on another room. I build this a couple of months ago with my s4 and this ZaZa-Remote to control FirstMedia tvcable receiver on my bedroom from a living room utilizing esp8266, it’s fun and challenging project.
